This visualization shows the instantaneous wind speed at 100 meters over the continental United States using data from the
WIND Toolkit. These data were generated using the WRF model by scientists at the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory to support research on development and integration of wind power into the electrical grid. The underlying dataset is more than 500TB, providing 7 years of data a 2km spatial resolution and 5 minute temporal resolution in order to support high resolution modeling of wind power production. This visualization demonstrates a public-access REST API providing access to a subset of these data with 1 hour temporal resolution and full spatial resolution for 2010 using the HDF Group's distributed cloud based service for
HDF5 data (HSDS).
